What is the VAIO Update utility?
Updates for preinstalled software and drivers are provided by the VAIO Update utility. This update utility improves user environment and helps to resolve minor problems.
When a new Operating System (OS) or new functions are introduced, more than one update program may be released to have them applied.
For that reason, and for your continued enjoyment of the product, please be sure to always have the latest version software and drivers applied to your computer by using the VAIO Update utility.
Follow these steps to obtain the latest version of the VAIO Update utility:
- Open an Internet browser and go the http://eSupport.sony.com website.
- On the eSupport website, enter your model number.
- On the eSupport page for your computer model, click the Drivers and Software tab.
- On the Drivers and Software tab, click to select the applicable Operating System .
- Expand Sony Application (Various) .
- Locate the latest VAIO Update software update and click Download .
- In the [Update Name] screen, click Download Now .
- Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the file to begin the installation. NOTE: If prompted for an administrator password or a User Account Control prompt is displayed, type the appropriate password, or click Yes .
- In the Select Country screen, select the country for this installation, and then click the Next button.
- In the VAIO Care screen, click the Next button.
- At the License Agreement dialog, read the agreement and then click I Agree to continue with the installation.
- In the Finished screen, click the Finish button.
- At the This system must be restarted to complete the installation prompt, click the OK button to restart the computer.

What is the VAIO® Update application and what does it do?
The VAIO Update application is a utility that provides notification of the latest software, driver, and security updates available. Follow this procedure to configure the VAIO Update application.
- Click the Start button, point to All Programs , point to VAIO Update , and click VAIO Update Options .
- In the VAIO Update Options [FIG. 1] window, scroll down to the end of the readme file.
- Click to select the Automatically check for updates on the support page box.
- Click to select Show Icon in the Notification Area in the Task Bar box.
- Click the OK button.

Программа VAIO Update предустанавливается на компьютерах VAIO с предустановленной ОС Windows XP, Vista или 7, а также на компьютерах, выпущенных после июня 2004 г. Данная программа НЕ может быть использована для более старых моделей.
VAIO Update 5 предназначается для всех компьютеров VAIO, поставленных после июня 2004 г. Программа была выпущена в декабре 2009 г. При обновлении от предшествующей версии требуется перезапустить компьютер.
Общие замечания
- Если используется автоматическое обновление, загруженные файлы автоматически удаляются в процессе обновления. Файлы, загруженные для обновления вручную, остаются в папке C:\Update. После обновления вручную эти файлы можно удалить.
- Не предусмотрена иная возможность скрыть обновление в этом списке, кроме как установить его. Если определенные обновления не следует устанавливать, просто не отмечайте их для установки. Они будут отображаться в списке, так что их можно будет при необходимости установить позднее.

VAIO Update можно запустить следующими способами.

Автоматическое обновление

- IMPORTANT: If the computer has not been repaired for the overheating issue, this update will disable the computer’s ability to charge the battery. If the repair has been made, this update will not affect the charging function. Refer to the Free Repair Program for VAIO Fit 11A/Flip Personal Computer announcement for more details.
- WARNING!! Before installing this update, be sure the computer is running from AC power. If the installation of the BIOS is interrupted by power loss, the computer may not operate correctly or at all!
- During the installation of this update:
- Do not turn the computer off.
- Do not allow the computer to enter Standby or Hibernation states.
- Do not start other programs.
- Do not connect any peripherals.

Download and Installation Instructions
- WARNING!! Before installing this update, be sure the computer is running from AC power. If the installation of the BIOS is interrupted by power loss, the computer may not operate correctly or at all!
- To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
- Download the EP0000601397.exe file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
- Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the EP0000601397.exe file to begin the installation.
- Please read the WARNING note for Microsoft® BitLocker™ security. Follow the on-screen instructions, then click OK to continue.
- At the User Account Control screen, click Yes .
- At the VAIO® Firmware Update Tool screen, confirm that the version to be installed is R0270DE , then click Update .
- At the The system will restart. Are you sure you want to update the VAIO firmware? dialog, click OK .
- Note: The computer will automatically shutdown when the BIOS update is complete.
- After the computer shuts down, wait for 60 seconds, then power on the computer.
After the computer restarts, the installation of the BIOS Update is complete.
Please follow the steps below to verify that the installation was successful
- Search VAIO Care (Desktop) and open the Sony Apps.
- Click About Your VAIO .
- Click System Information .
- Verify that the file version is R0270DE .
