Checking the Version of Safari on a Mac
Here are the steps to follow:
- Launch the Safari app on your Mac.
- Select the About Safari option under the Safari menu.
It will open an information window with the Safari version number.
As per the above screenshot, Version 16.4 is the version of the Safari browser. The number written inside the bracket is the WebKit/Safari Build version.
Checking the Current Version of Safari app on iPhone
If you don’t know, Safari is integral part of the iOS or iPadOS system, version number of Safari will be the same as your current operating system version. You can find the iOS or iPadOS version:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone/iPad.
- Navigate to the General tab within Settings.
- Tap on the About tab to open OS information.
The number you see in Software Version is also the current Safari version.
For example, if your device runs on iOS 14.2, your Safari version is 14.
If you tap on the Software Update under General settings, your Safari browser will be updated to the latest version with the iPhone or iPad operating system.

Web browsers have a new version or build number after every update, and staying on the latest version is always recommended.
We can manually check the current browser version installed on our devices and update the web browser accordingly.
Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Opera, etc., display the version within the browser interfaces.

The web browser domain is filled with many options a user could choose. The developers add unique features to their offerings to distinguish their products from their competitors.
Along the same lines, they also release quality updates at regular intervals. While these updates may or may not add new goodies, they improve the overall functioning of the browser and, more importantly, enhance security.
In this regard, checking out its version number is the easiest way to ensure your browser is updated. If there’s an increment, your browser has been successfully updated.
Apart from that, these build numbers also play an essential role in the downgrade process.
For example, a buggy update might be released in some instances, which could break some of the browser’s functionality. In that case, the only way out is to downgrade your browser to an earlier build, for which you will again need to take the help of its version number.
There could be many instances when you must discover the installed browser version. And this guide will show you how to do it across all the popular web browsers.
